Downtown & Beyond: What are you trying to accomplish - generally -
with your work?

Eastep: To create graphic and dramatic images that are evocative.

Downtown & Beyond: What inspired you to take this path?

Eastep: The writings of J. Krishnamurti, the photographs of Ernst Haas, the point of
view of Magnum photographers, and my wife's work in the theater.

Downtown & Beyond: What are some examples of recent or important commercial,
private, and/or public applications of your work?

Eastep: My work has been exhibited in such museums as the American Museum of
Natural History, the Kuwait National Museum, and the Textile Museum in Washington,
DC. Important collections include Polaroid, EPCOT, Embassy of Kazakhstan, the St.
Louis Zoo, United Technologies, Grand Trunk Railroad, West Palm Beach Casino Line,
and Independent Life Insurance.
Exhibits include "Celebration of New York in Color" (London, Tokyo, Sydney and New
York); the U.S. National Arabian Horse Show (Louisville, KY); "Glimpses of America"
(Shanghai, Beijing); "Public Exposures/Private Visions" (Boston); "Saudi Arabia:
Yesterday and Today" (a traveling exhibit in the U.S. and Canada); Design Show /
Art Directors Club (Boston); the Connecticut Art Directors Club (Hartford); and the
Nikon Waterhouse Exhibit (United States).

I have created 5 books: Bedouin, The Soul of Kazakhstan, The Living Seas, Last Blast
at Wethersfield
, and Experience the Wonders of Life; and my work has been featured
in scores of publications including "National Geographic," "The Smithsonian," and the
"New York Times."

Finally, corporate clients include Polaroid, American Express, Allied Signal, AT&T, GE,
Nikon, Exxon Mobil, UPS, Olympus, United Technologies, Texaco, United Airlines, Met
Life, Nautica, and Canon.

Downtown & Beyond: What projects are you currently working on?

Eastep: I'm working on two exhibits - The 2004 Petra Exhibit at the American Museum
of Natural History, and "The Soul of Kazakhstan," a touring exhibit throughout the
United States. I am also helping to develop a brand image campaign for GE-Monogram.

Downtown & Beyond: If you had one word to describe your work what would it be?

Eastep: Evocative.
