Wayne Eastep is an award-winning photo- grapher with a passion for world cultures.
He earned a Master of Divinity degree
with an emphasis on culture and philosophy
from Union Theological Seminary in New
York City.
His subsequent apprenticeship with New
York photographers Bill Stettner and Burt
Glinn prepared him for a career that has
taken him around the world.
During his daring shoots, Eastep’s logis-
tical problem-solving ability has been
thoroughly tested.
He has traveled with armed guards on the
Uzbek border, shot aerials outside and un-
derneath a helicopter at 6,000 feet, as well
as from a Soviet high-altitude helicopter at
26,000 feet with the windows open.
He has photographed treasures of the
ancient Japanese capitols Kyoto and Nara. |

With his wife Patti, he lived as a nomad in the deserts of Arabia to document in
photographs and text the life of the Al Murrah Bedouin tribe. The resulting book,
Bedouin, won the British best book award and the gold prize for the best of all
things in print. Also in Saudi Arabia he produced a film about the King’s Camel
Race commissioned by National Geographic Explorer.
The Soul of Kazakhstan, Mr. Eastep’s latest book, showcases a Central Asian
country rediscovering its rich cultural heritage. It is the culmination of three
years of travel, photography, and research.
Mr. Eastep photographed the official book The Living Seas, for the world’s
largest aquarium at Florida’s EPCOT center. This project involved training with
Navy Seals, the use of specialized underwater photographic equipment and two
years of photographing marine life on coral reefs in the Caribbean. |
