The Heian Jingu Shrine. 1895 marked the 1,100th year since the Heian Capital was founded. Marking the commemorative year the citizens of Kyoto decided to praise the virtues of Emperor Kammu and deify ham as the ancestral god of Kyoto. To this end, they created a shrine in the style of Chodo-in. the shrine was deidicated March 15, 1895.
